YouTube & how it has evolved


YouTube is a video sharing website, that was created by three former Pay Pal employees. Who are called: Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Sawed Karim. These three people created YouTube on February 2005 it has allowed a huge amount of people to watch and share originally created videos.

YouTube also provides a forum for people to connect, inform and inspire others throughout the world. It can also act as a platform of distribution for creators of original content it can also be used to advertise products and service’s no matter how large or small the business is. YouTube uses a programme called Adoble flash video and HTML5 technology to display a wide variety of user-generated content. Including music videos, movie trailers, TV clips, video blogging, educational videos and short original plays.

When YouTube was in production they offered the public a test run of the site back in May 2005 – six months before the release date-which turned into a success. As the website grew in popularity with more then 65,000 new videos being uploaded to the site everyday and the website has received 100 million hits on the videos per day. The popularity for this site increased further by its official launch in November 2006, as it became the dominant provider of online video in the United States of America, which a market share of 43%.

Social media refers to the means of interactions among people in which they create, share and exchange information in virtual communities and networks. Social media depends on mobiles, and web based technology. To create highly interactive platforms where individuals and communities can share, discuss and change or upgrade user-generated content.

To this day YouTube gets sixty hours of content unloaded every minute on the website and more then three quarters of the material come from outwith the USA and it has become the third most visited site on the internet behind Google and Facebook.

There are many Positives and Negatives to the use of YouTube such as;

  • A positive would be that it offers many people job opportunities such as Justin Beiber, Boyce avenue are some of the people that have started there careers on YouTube.
  • It also gives people a creative outlet to show-off there skills and talents.
  • A negative would be that an online backlash can be created and the people can become cyber bullied due to what is put up on You Tube.
